Your Shadow is Your Superpower: Embracing all Aspect of Self
As this second retreat came to a close, I’m aware of an overwhelming sense of gratitude. Hosting a retreat in Croatia, the country of my family’s origins, feels like a personal victory. Growing up as a kid in Sweden with Croatian parents had its challenges. A different language was spoken at home, and our customs often didn’t align with those of my friends. The house was always lively, bustling with guests and energy. It wasn’t the typical Swedish way—modest, reserved, and demure—which made fitting in feel difficult at times.
But in reflecting and looking back, I realize the very things that once felt like obstacles have become some of my greatest gifts. What I once wished to hide, I now proudly share. In Jungian terms, I’ve integrated these shadow parts of myself, embracing what I once pushed away.
The warmth of sharing meals, the deep sense of community, and the importance of connection have become the foundation of these retreats. It’s not just about gathering in a beautiful place, but about creating a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued—just as my family always welcomed others into our home.
This retreat was a reflection of that sense of belonging. The stories shared, tears, laughter, and even the quiet moments of introspection reminded us that true connection transcends borders, cultures, and backgrounds. It was an opportunity not just to explore Croatia’s natural beauty but to dive into the richness of human connection, to celebrate our differences, and to embrace the parts of ourselves that once felt out of place. Isn’t that something!?
Also, with each retreat, there is a deepening understanding of what it means to hold space for one another. Whether it was through heartfelt group discussions, quiet moments by the sea, or simply breaking bread together, the essence of community and sisterhood was palpable. It’s a powerful reminder that the pieces of our past, no matter how difficult, shape us into who we are today.
The gratitude felt in this moment is beyond words. To those who joined, thank you for bringing your energy, your stories, and your openness. The connections we built will continue to resonate as we carry the lessons of this retreat back into our everyday lives.
May we all remember the power of gathering, of listening deeply, and of embracing the uniqueness of our stories as we move forward. How can you relate to my story? Let me know! I love hearing from you.
I’m currently planning 2 retreats for late August and early Sept 2025; Sweden and Croatia. Will you join me?
To Powerful, Positive Change…Cheers!
