Often something has to happen before something happens.
– Johan Cruijff

Question: How do you cope |navigate |adjust to change? Whether the change is personal, professional or collective (think Covid for example), change can be unsettling or, in some cases exciting, and usually generate a reaction. Common reactions people might experience are:

  • Anxiety -what will happen?

  • Happiness -I’m so excited!

  • Fear – what impact will the change have on me?

  • Threat – the problem is bigger than I thought.

  • Guilt – did I cause this?

  • Acceptance – maybe things won’t be so bad.

People adapt and accept to change in their own time. Many resist change because it takes us from our comfort zone and into the unknown where uncertainty and lack of control lives.

My invitation is to become aware of your own reactions to change. What is your current comfort level and reactions to change? Know thy self…Because when you do, you can manage and process your feelings, and perhaps begin to see beauty in change.

You can ask yourself certain questions with every change:

  1. What can I learn from this?

  2. Can I see that through this I am growing as a human being?

  3. What am I not going to do next time?

  4. What am I going to do (differently) next time?

  5. And, my personal favorite: what is life asking of me now?

Let me know how you feel about change-I love to hear from you!
